However, many guardians enjoy non-competitive agility, hoopers, man-trailing and other sports with their Picards, which is helping to forge closer bonds and create mutual enjoyment between the dog and guardian.  All sports, whether formally competitive or a Sunday morning local pet club, must be undertaken whilst respecting your dog&#8217;s physical integrity and their maturity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Agility<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Truly a team sport, agility combines skill, training, and human-canine communication in a display that is as much fun for spectators as it is for participants.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"616\" src=\"http:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_6438-1-1024x616.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_6438-1-1024x616.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_6438-1-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_6438-1-768x462.jpg 768w, https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_6438-1-240x145.jpg 240w, https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_6438-1.jpg 1170w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>While certain breeds seem to excel at agility, most notably Aussies and Border Collies, the sport can be enjoyed and done well by any dog. Even if you have no intention of ever competing, there are still multiple benefits, two of the greatest being the intense mental and physical workout agility provides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-text-color\" style=\"color:#2c759f\"><blockquote><p><strong>It is important to remember that your puppy\u2019s bones and joints are still forming, growing and maturing right up to 18 months of age \u2013 and high-impact sports before this age may cause joint problems or arthritis when the dog is older.<\/strong> <\/p><cite>Usually a pup must be <strong>at least<\/strong> a year old to participate in classes or competition, but requirements may vary. please check with your vet.<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG-20230603-WA0003-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG-20230603-WA0003-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG-20230603-WA0003-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG-20230603-WA0003-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/picardysheepdog.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG-20230603-WA0003.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Agility and sports has the immeasurable benefit of bolstering confidence. As your dog masters particular jumps and moves, and her focusing ability and athletic skills are honed, a more self-assured and nimble animal emerges, and that confidence will permeate other aspects of her life too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, agility training strengthens the bond between dog and humans: as you work and play together, you will learn to read one another on a unique and deep level, communicating well beyond basic cues such as \u201csit,\u201d \u201cstay,\u201d and \u201cdown.\u201d  And perhaps the biggest reward is that agility training is just plain fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:7px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/picardy-sheepdog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_1660-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-802\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Before starting agility training, schedule a check-up with your vet to make sure your dog is physically able to participate. Breeds prone to hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, or vision problems should be carefully evaluated.
